What to Wear: Office Holiday Party Edition
It is Now Officially Holiday Party Season! In this Post we Break Down What to Wear and What NOT to Wear to the Office Holiday Party
Do you ever feel like sometimes at work you are actually starring in a real life episode of The Office? Because, same. Oftentimes something will happen and I will be looking around for a hidden camera because I think it has to be some kind of a joke. I haven’t found it yet, but I am still searching! Well, just like in the show, office holiday parties make for absolutely great material for months to come. Whether Debbie from Accounting blacks out, your boss spills the tea, or your suspicions of that office romance between Joe and the new girl Ashley are confirmed, there is always so much good stuff that goes down at the office party. So, you want to be sure that you are dressed for the occasion! The below post breaks down some recommendations to guide you on what to wear for the holiday party! * Note this post contains affiliate links to Amazon that will link you directly to the product.
Of course, I am in a more conservative profession, but depending on your job and office environment you can go as sparkly or fun as you’d like. Just remember, you want everyone talking about Debbie from Accounting and not about what you wore (in a bad or scandalous way). So, the moral of the story is to keep it professional, but make it fashion! Here are my top 5 recommendations for the cutest, most fun, office party outfit!
1) Sparkles, Sparkles, Sparkles- Well, maybe just a little sparkle for an office party. (I would totally go for a full sequin outfit for any other holiday party, especially a NYE affair, but not for an office party). However, a little bit of sparkle goes a long way to make a boring outfit into holiday party outfit perfection! Some options include: a sequin cami under a blazer; a rhinestone embellished pencil skirt; or a little beaded detail on a sweater will make that boring office uniform into a sparkly holiday treat!
2) Pop of Color- Another great way to add a little holiday flair to an otherwise basic professional outfit is a pop of color on the shoe. I absolutely love the idea of taking your typical black pencil skirt and white top and then pairing it with a POP, like a pair of red heels. In fact, the holidays is a perfect excuse to rock the red pump. A great pair is linked here.
3) A Velvet’s Edge- Last year I saw a lot of people going with the full velvet look, but this year it is all about the velvet blazer or velvet or suede pants. I also saw this amazing draping velvet sweater from Target in the most gorgeous emerald green that would be perfect for an office holiday party. Unfortunately, I cannot find it on Target.com, but I found a very similar one on Amazon and it’s less than $15! It is linked here. I think a way to add a little sparkle here would be to pair it with really bling-y earrings to finish off the look.
4) It’s a Jungle in There- An office party can turn into a jungle real quick. From high school through law school I catered many office parties and I found they are either a snore bore or a complete rager. Be prepared for either with a fun animal print! Again, as with the sparkles, a little goes a long way. You could go with a leopard print button up paired with chic black pants or a simple black pencil skirt. Another option would be the snake skin (which is still having a moment) midi skirt with a black top. A third option would be a snake skin or leopard print pump, which would also be very, very cute! Last, but not least, a little faux fur on the sleeve or collar is always so fun!
5) Midi in the City- I am absolutely loving the look of midi skirts with sweaters. I found this amazing beautiful deep emerald pleated midi skirt at Target and paired it with a white sweater also at Target. The best part is that it is very flowy, comfortable, and you can swoosh and twirl it around! Another really pretty option is the satin midi skirt, which adds an extra pizazz and shiny element that is perfect for a holiday party! You can still feel professional in a midi, but also very stylish and powerful! I would definitely go with statement earrings for this look as well.
Quick tip: There are also still a ton of options available on Rent the Runway with availability through NYE.
I know the office parties are now in full swing, so I hope you find these recommendations helpful! Enjoy and remember, don’t be Debbie from Accounting! Be responsible, but have fun! Happy Holidays!!
