What to Wear: Thanksgiving Edition
Casual, Chic, and Comfortable! The Trifecta for the Perfect Turkey Day Outfit
Thanksgiving. It is a day to stop, reflect, and practice gratitude. Now that I have gotten older, I appreciate taking a day to truly think about what I am thankful for and to appreciate and celebrate those things. We always go around the table and say what we are thankful for, but also why you are thankful. My favorite is hearing what my grandparents are thankful for since they have lived the most life. Every year, my grandparents say the same thing. They are thankful for family and everyone taking the time and effort to be with them. Now, with our own kids, I finally really understand what they mean.
So, this year, we are really making an effort to be with family. It may cost extra money and be a hassle toting the kids out of the house, but at the end of the day, it really is an opportunity for the whole family to be together. Although we are thankful for the usual things, this year we are especially thankful for togetherness. Although we may live faraway, we are thankful everyone is making an effort to be together this year.
With that togetherness comes a lot of food. Also, there is always stuff happening— cooking in the kitchen, football games are on, the kids are pulling the tablecloth off, where’s the dog? Because of the business of the day, it is so important to have the right outfit. I always struggle to find the right balance of cute and comfort.
This year, I am going with the poncho look for several reasons. First, it is really cute and on trend right now. Second, it covers up that belly after a day full of appetizers, drinks, food, dessert, and more drinks. Third, I can move around easily in it to be chasing after the kids. I think another really cute option would be a heavier turtleneck sweater, especially in a cooler climate. For those in a warmer climate, I think a light 3/4 sleeve button up with light sweater over it would be a great option and you can take off the sweater if it gets too hot or put it back on as it cools off at night.
I thought this particular poncho was really cute from Vici Collection because of the different colors, all which are very “Fall” and complimentary. I paired the poncho with a Black Lightweight Turtleneck in case I get a little hot. The jeans are Paige Denim from Nordstrom and linked here. Last, but certainly not least, I added the cutest wine colored hat from BCBG that I think really tied it together. Who knows how long that will actually stay on for Thanksgiving, but it gives a little pop as you walk in the room!
We hope you all have an opportunity to take a moment, find something in your life to be grateful for, savor whatever that is, and enjoy your T-Day!
